It will go. It goes for everyone. Here's what to have in place for when it does.
27 January 2026 · 4 MIN READSomewhere around week six or seven, the novelty wears off. The early progress slows, the weather's rubbish, work's busy, and the thing you were excited about becomes another job on the list.
This is the normal part. It isn't a sign you've picked the wrong programme or that you're not cut out for it. Everyone hits it, including me.
Have a floor. Mine is: turn up and do the two main lifts, even badly. No warm-up faff, no accessories. Ten minutes counts. The point isn't the session, it's not becoming someone who stops.
Shrink the goal. Instead of "get in shape this year", it's "three sessions this week". You can see the end of that from where you're standing.
And tell someone. Half of what coaching does is make it awkward to disappear. That's not a weakness — it's just how most people work.
Three sessions you actually do beat five you keep meaning to. Building a week that survives work, kids and a bad night's sleep.
